The purpose of homework, especially in 1st grade, is to help your child develop study skills and homework routines, while reinforcing skills that he/she is learning in school.  Included in your child’s homework folder may be math and reading practice. For the beginning of the year reading homework will be a nightly reading log. Please have your students read at least 10 minutes each night, write the title of the book, and their rating! Before returning to school, students will pick their favorite book from the week. Reading with your student is highly encouraged as well J Please let me know if your learner needs more books to practice with at home. Math practice may be number sense worksheets and games, or fact fluency. Homework folders will go home on Fridays and will be due back with completed work by the following Friday unless otherwise noted.  Consistent nightly practice is very important when children are learning new skills.  Your help and support at home is very important.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me! Homework should not be a frustration but a way to practice our skills at home, so please let me know if anything is too difficult!  I hope that you and your child will enjoy this new experience.

Thanks for your support!
